Steve is an Aurora or Not?

Steve is an atmospheric optical phenomenon which appears as a purple and green light ribbon in the sky. This is not the new phenomenon, but nobody had looked into it in detail prior to that. Researchers proposed that it is a type of Aurora, a light display generated when ions and other charged particles from space slam into Earth’s magnetic field. The phenomenon was dubbed STEVE, which scientists converted to an acronym for Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement. Let'stake a look at the steve!

And how about Aurora? Let's take a look

!

Are you getting confused? Calm down! Let's see the detail of both. The first picture describes Steve as a light ribbon in the sky but Aurora as countless little bursts of light called photons.

So, guys, you can distinguish between Aurora and Steve! But you have to know more about Steve. So we are going to the next question, why Steve can exist?

The researchers found that Steve doesn’t have the charged particles that auroras possess. This implies that Steve, whatever it is, isn’t an Aurora, but a new phenomenon yet to be adequately explained. The researchers have said that Steve is a “Sky Glow”, not an aurora.

The scientist who studies this phenomenon says that these findings imply that STEVE isn’t an extension of auroras, rather a completely different phenomenon. According to Gallardo-Lacourt, what the new phenomenon is currently “completely unknown”.

So researchers currently hoping can solve about existential of Steve and learn more about Steve.
